On the peer review process and the experience of publishing my first paper.

I have recently had my first paper accepted for publication, and I thought this would be a good chance to write about the peer review process both for scientists and non-scientists alike. In line with the former I will give an outline of what it takes to write and publish a paper, and line with the latter I will try and convey anything which helped in regards to getting my paper published. Mini disclaimer: I am obviously no expert since I have only done this once (n = 1), these are just my distilled musings on the whole shebang. Second mini disclaimer: I study within the life sciences domain, so this piece is of course related primarily to research within the natural sciences, and specifically the paper is about analytical chemistry.  As an aside, I couldn’t think of a suitable cover image so above is an actual image of me from when I posed in my lab for some stock photos for The University of Nottingham image bank.
